HUNTING FOR PERCEBES ON THE ROCKY GALICIAN COAST

CAPTURED BY THE RECIPE HUNTERS

The Recipe Hunters head to the rocky coastline with Alberto to hunt for Gooseneck Barnacles or "percebes," one of Galicia's most prized culinary delicacies. Percebes are one of the world's most dangerous delicacies because they live in between rocks along the coast.  Collectors or "percebeiros" have to risk their lives on slippery steep cliffs as time hefty currents and waves come crashing in. All to harvest their day's catch. We bare a less dangerous coast during low tide where we collect about 2 pounds worth. We then go back to learn how to cook the Percebes. Percebes can be sold at restaurants for $200/kilo or about $82 per pound.

A special thanks to Pelepau for letting us use their song Maracatú!
