We spent 4 weeks volunteering on a Permaculture farm located in Kyrenia (Girne) , a city on the Northern coast of Cyprus.
In our free time we searched for locals who are passionate about keeping their family's culinary history alive. We first found Karime and learn how to roast lamb in their traditional clay oven, we met two local moms and a grandmother at a flea market and they invited us to learn how to make Cypriot Molokhia and how to make and roll Dolmas, then we learned how to make traditional Cypriot bread from a 93-year-old great-grandmother, and halloumi! We decided to brush up on our Greek and trek to the Southern side of Cyprus where we were invited to stay in the homes of locals and learn how to make traditional Loukoumia, vasilopita for a local elementary school, and visit a goat farm. Check out all of the adventures below!
